If you’re looking for comfortable, versatile, athletic AND easy on the eyes, Dewey checks a whole lot of boxes!  Dewey is forgiving and confidence-building without being a dead-broke packer. He’s still a young horse with a little personality but is the type that gives you confidence without feeling like you’re riding a babysitter.

 

Quite possibly one of the smoothest rides you could ask for!  He would be suitable lesson horse and is an absolute confidence builder for riders learning to canter and so smooth over a jump. He’s responsive to the aids without being overly sensitive and naturally falls more on the kick-ride side.  Dewey has all the pieces to make a seriously fun and competitive partner in a number of directions.

 

 EVENTING: Fancy, accurate and rhythmic on the flat, brave cross country and careful in the stadium.

 

 HUNTERS: With his movement you’re sure to get a piece in the hack, and he has natural perfect rhythm, and shape I could absolutely see him developing into a serious competitor on the hunter circuit. He has been started on his flying changes and is already understanding the question with a little more mileage, they should be automatic in no time.

 

 WESTERN DRESSAGE / WORKING EQUITATION: Responsive, trainable and naturally rhythmic with enough substance and versatility to easily cross over into either discipline and oddly enough shows potential as a barrel horse as he will open up willingly if asked and is super handy at speed.

 

Outside the arena, Dewey has TONS of trail miles. He absolutely loves the water and is wonderful in a group happy to patiently follow behind or lead the way. When hacking out completely alone, he can still have some spooky/looky moments, so he is not being represented as a dead-broke beginner safe solo trail horse for a timid rider but as confident riders we do ride him out alone without issue as long as he gets proper guidance when he questions or reacts to something new. 

 

He is best suited for an intermediate rider or a beginner working consistently under trainer supervision in a program, simply because he is still young and can occasionally be looky. That said, there is absolutely no buck, he doesn’t get fresh after having days off, and he has been an incredibly useful, enjoyable horse to bring along.
